Tulbaghia alliacea

THE MOST MISNAMED TULBAGHIA IN THE UK.

I have seen countless plants listed as such, with claims that they are in flower in the Northern hemisphere May to September etc, even Nothoscordum gracile is being mistakenly sold as Tulbaghia alliacea, and you certainly wouldn’t want to let that loose in a rockery especially in Mediterranean climates, as it can be invasive and difficult to eradicate.

The species, one of the oldest established in the genus is from a restricted area of the winter rainfall region of South Africa.
That means that it is summer dormant here in the northern hemisphere.
